The Service Orders application generates service orders, monitors their status until complete, and retains the information on file for reference and reporting. Service orders are initiated by direct input and, optionally, may be created automatically by other programs.
Service orders interface with the water customer database, using specialized input screens for opening an account, closing an account, and recording other activities related to a customer account. Service orders may also be used for utility billing activity not related to a customer account such as a leak in the street. It is assumed this input will often be done while on the telephone with a customer, so search options are available by name, service address, meter serial number, account number and others, if needed.
If a customer application or sign-up sheet is used for a new customer, this form is printed as part of the opening account service order.
If a meter reading device is used, service orders may be created automatically from repair codes recorded by the meter reader and for high- or low-usage meters that should be re-read.
Service order forms may be printed when entered or by scheduled date, priority, type of work, service person assigned or service order number. Audit journals and various reports of open and closed service orders are available by these and other options.
